Florence Foster Jenkins opens in theaters August 12th. Our leading lady is played by none other than the great Meryl Streep. This movie is just endearing and a feel good film. Based on the true story of socialite Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep) and her love of music and husband, St. Clair Banfield (Hugh Grant). The story takes place in 1940's Manhattan. Florence lives for music, but unfortunately cannot carry a tune. Her wealth affords her the option of taking lessons, attending the finest operas and even hosting performances. Her husband, St. Clair, is a failed actor that lives off her generosity and wealth, but yet he is supportive of her. They have a commitment to each other that is anything but typical.
Florence decides that she wants to sing and perform at Carnegie Hall. How could someone whose enjoyed applause (mostly purchased by St. Clair) ever open herself outside of her social bubble and perform to the masses including attendance by a New York Post critic that refuses to be bought?
The film will pull at your heart strings and make you laugh! Although you may cringe when you first hear Florence "sing". It's a sweet and delightful movie.
