Our Review
When seeing a sequel movie there is always the element of desire of wanting it to live up to it's predecessor. Unfortunately, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 falls short. It starts off very visually appealing with a lot of action and a ton of toddler Groot! He is by far the best part of this movie and the opening sequence featuring him dancing to tunes is exactly what Groot fans want to see. The comedy also is on point in the beginning, but goes stale midway. My favorite scene was the "tape scene", I think we can all relate. The visual effects are amazing. Very much like Vol. 1, the colors, stars and galaxy settings are visually stunning and magical.
But, I just wanted more...more of it all. I felt that there could have been more humor, better soundtrack, more action, and more character depth. The film feels long and just drawn out as the runtime is set at 136 minutes. It was just a tad disappointing as I was a huge fan of the first film. Maybe, Vol. 3 will be better...yes, the Guardians of the Galaxy will return.
For the mommas out there looking to take the kiddos, be forewarned that there is quite a bit of crude humor. It will totally go over the young kids' heads as long as they are okay with sci-fi violence. The 9+ crowd will get most of the crude humor, but it isn't anything I felt was too serious for the tweens and up crowd. There is some lighter language as well.
Don't forget to stay until the very end credits, as there a several clips throughout!!!
Rating: PG-13
