Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives today, 5/6, in theaters nationwide. It’s jampacked with a lot of content in a darker Marvel theme.

Score: 3 out of 5
Rating: PG-13 Runtime: 2hr 6min

!!! No Spoilers !!!

I think after two days from screening the film, I am still recovering. It is not a long Marvel movie, so I got a little whiplash from all the elements packed into the film. There was so much content, it was exhausting. I think it really needs to be watched a second time if you are a fan to really capture all the lore.

As Marvel Studios is now in it’s 4th phase of the cinematic universe it has explored the darker side of the psyche of the characters and this movie lived up to that. It will not feel like the Marvel we knew of the Iron Man days. The killing was a little gruesome and the overall theme was dark. The director Sam Raimi is known for horror and it comes through in this film. I think the film forgot that Marvel is now really a genre of it’s own now and kids are a good portion of their audience. Expect jump scares, those are not my cup of tea. I never review horror films, bc it is just not my thing. If you are a Raimi fan, you may feel differently than me. Overall, it felt disjointed and lacking heart as I wasn’t convinced that Wanda really is the villain.

With that being said, Scarlet Witch aka Wanda Maximoff played by Elizabeth Olson steals the show, it might as well have been her title film, maybe perhaps in a different universe, it is. Wanda’s insanity is explained by the Darkhold, the magic book that makes her the villain. It is a hard pill to swallow though, we feel for her and empathized with her loss of Vision, her great love, and fell in love with her in WandaVision. There are plenty of holes in the plot to be explored. Some are defined by the cameos themselves. The audience went crazy over the additional Marvel heroes’ entrances. And a few will leave fans talking and debating for some time.

Visually the film is stunning and the CGI unparalleled. From a parental point of view, the witchcraft is strong and you’ll want to proceed with caution for our younger viewers.

Doctor Strange will return…maybe perhaps the universe we enter will be a lot happier version next time.
