National Watermelon Day - How to Cut Watermelon Sticks & Watermelon Pops

Today (8/3) is National Watermelon Day!

"I carried a watermelon" - Baby (Jennifer Grey) from Dirty Dancing. That was the first thing that came to my mind when I discovered today was National Watermelon Day. Love that movie...LOL

Actually, I LOVE Watermelon, it is my favorite summer fruit. I have been known to just consume a whole bowl with a sprinkle of salt on it as a full meal. Did you know that watermelon is served more than any other fruit at summer picnics and fairs? It also can help you meet those 8 glasses of water you are supposed to consume a day, as it is made up of 92% water. WOWsers!
I know my kids enjoy it and we frequently eat it while in the pool.
Which brings me to sharing my new "favorite" way to cut
watermelon for the kids...Watermelon Sticks

WATERMELON STICKS
Step 1: Cut watermelon in 1/2 into 3rds if it is very large
Step 2: Make vertical cuts through the half (~ 1-1 1/2 in)

Step 3: Make cuts all the way through horizontally (~1-1 1/2 in)

Step 4: Repeat with the other half.
Step 5: Viola! Watermelon sticks
(Some are just the ends - feel free to just toss those!)

Another favorite recipe of mine = Watermelon Pops!
Watermelon Pops
Frozen, boozy or non-alcoholic versions...easy to handle.
Go here for the recipe I previously posted.
